Meet Velou’s Associate Software Quality Engineering Lead: Imalka Pelendagamage
Why did you choose to work at Velou?
I have been working in the IT Industry for 7 years. I have hands-on experience in different software domains, but working in ecommerce and providing a search solution specifically for fashion has been far more interesting. The opportunity to work with experts in the industry gives me great exposure to grow as an individual. That is what motivated me to join Velou.
What are you responsible for?
As the Associate Software Quality Engineering Lead, I’m accountable for on-time high quality delivery of artifacts that meets customer expectation at a project level. My primary responsibility is to effectively lead a team of Quality Engineers to meet product and project goals, thereby achieving organizational goals. My day-to-day responsibilities include: building up and leading the Testing Team towards a successful completion of a project; defining the scope of testing within the context of each release; delivery, deploying and managing resources for testing; applying the appropriate test measurements and metrics in the product; and planning, deploying and managing the testing effort for any given engagement with the Testing Team.

What is your favorite thing about working for Velou?
I love that not everything is work all of the time. We will go on team outings frequently and have lunch together. It is also a lot of fun. Velou is like my second family. Everyone shares the same vision and is dedicated to the mission. This truly creates a family environment where everybody is there for each other. It's a blessing to be in a family environment as It always makes all of us more comfortable to share our thoughts with each other. Not only me, but I'm sure all of us believe that a comfortable work environment makes all the employees more proactive and efficient. Velou’s leadership always believes in us. It's great to nurture our own leadership skills. Encouraging us to learn, grow, and innovate inside the company shows that the company values its employees.
What do you like to do for fun?
I keep up with a variety of hobbies. Cooking comes first. I really enjoy cooking anytime and I have been doing it since childhood. I experiment with new recipes when I have free time, although some are disastrous! Another activity is my outings with my family on weekends, which really helps me a lot to relax my mind. As a working mother, I always try to find a good life-work balance. It’s a lot of fun playing with my babies, which helps me to turn my brain off and forget all my duties and work for a while.
Which social media platform do you use the most?
I usually use Facebook. This was an unforgettable day at Velou for me. My team members had arranged a baby shower for me. I have no words to express how happy I was on that day. I would really like to thank the team at Velou for the love and attention they gave me during my pregnancy period.
What was the last fashion item you purchased online?
I usually do my shopping online. I made my last online purchase this February. It was a floral, long-sleeve surplice neck dress with a curved hem, which can be worn for a casual occasion. These are all the main features of the dress I learned about! :D
